Matt Braune, founder of Bio Engineering Solutions (Pty ) LTD is a Professional Registered Civil Engineer with 38 years experience in the consulting engineering industry.  He is also an associate member of IMESA a council member of ECSA and a member of DMISA.

Matt started his career with Concor Construction in 1982 as a resident engineer and later site agent for several construction projects.  After spending 4 years with Concor Construction he stepped into the consulting engineering world.  He started as a Engineer with SRK Consulting in 1986.  During the time at SRK Consulting he became a director of the company and was responsible for all municipal and mining related projects and services.  During this period he gained extensive experience in the municipal consulting engineering sector specialising mainly on storm water master planning, river rehabilitation and urban water management.

In January 2000 he opened the SRK Pretoria office with a staff complement of 25.  Matt has been project director on numerous master plan studies, asset management, bulk services and river rehabilitation projects for all metropolitan councils as well as most municipalities in Southern Africa.

Matt has furthermore gained international experience in flood management, storm water master planning and mine pollution control through courses and conferences held in the USA, Canada, Australia and Europe.

He has authored and presented several technical papers at international conferences and has obtained two “ Best Technical Paper “ awards from IMESA .

In 2016 Matt left SRK to open his own consultancy, Bio Engineering Africa Consulting and Training Academy (Pty) Ltd.  Matt then obtained his professional ECSA mentor status in 2016 and was contracted to SAICE-PDP (Professional development and projects) from 2016 to 2018.  During this period, he mentored some 25 engineers / technicians in training to assist with becoming registered with ECSA.  Based on the mentorship programme Matt established that there is a large gap and need to mentor and capacitate candidate engineers and technicians and enhance their technical skills.  In line with this Matt has been contracted to several small and emerging consulting companies assisting them with gaining experience and technical know how.

In light of the above urgent mentorship and skills transfer needs, he is currently planning and developing a mentoring and learnership academy to assist companies as well as individuals to further their technical and managerial skills.  One of his current ambitions is to partner with emerging as well as established consultants and clients to further help grow their technical skills, service delivery and transfer his wealth of experience to the younger generation within the civil engineering environment.
